Sometimes things aren’t what they seem…

After the morning service Sunday, I was chatting with a friend in the narthex. I glanced around and saw a young mother with her stroller. She was being very protective of her stroller.  As I continued to look, I was shocked at what I saw…a full grown tabby cat was in the seat. I know what you’re thinking: a companion for her child. Yet, as it turns out there was no child, just a cat. I could see kids and adults, staring at her and avoiding all contact. Not thinking of her soul, what she might need. But shunning her based on her appearance.
I thought to myself, how many times do we do this? Judge someone, make assumptions about who they are based on the physical appearance alone and act on that preconceived thought.  Do we really see through to the soul as Christ did?  He saw their need and He met it. Whether it was a physical and spiritual, Christ gave of Himself, to everyone.
Matthew 9: 36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
It didn’t matter who these people were, or where they were from. Christ looked through the exterior to their hearts and saw their need. Do I have a compassionate heart like Christ? Don’t let the physical block you from seeing the spiritual: a soul in need.
