Throughout God’s Word, one can find many commands and guidelines which must be followed in order to live a life totally surrendered to God. I believe this is a simple summation of how God wants the Christian to live.
I. Love God
- Matthew 22:35-38 – “Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
- Really, when this command is followed, the Christian will be fulfilling all of the commands. John 14:15 says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
II. Live For God
- I Timothy 6:11-14 – “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ
- II Timothy 2:21-22 – “If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
- God’s Word commands Christians to live in a manner that exemplifies Christ. One who is a Christian is also to live in a manner which brings glory to God, and will lead others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
III. Look For God
- I Thessalonians 5:2-6 – “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let20us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
- God’s Word commands the Christian to be prepared for the coming of Christ and to live like He will come any minute.
