Facebook for Pastors

So pastor, you’re thinking about getting a Facebook? Social networking is huge, and it’s no longer just for people in their 20′s and teens. (Though they probably wish it was :) ) Maybe you already have a Facebook page, but don’t know about all of its tools beyond playing addictive games like Farmville.  Facebook can be a great resource to connect with your people, congregation, or groups.  You get to see some of the behind-the-scenes of your church congregation’s lives, as well as share with them about yours. Whether you’re relaying prayer requests, suggesting books, or declaring what you had for supper, connecting with your congregation can be both easy and fun.  Chris Forbes of Ministry Marketing Coach has written a free ebook explaining both the need and uses of Facebook, specifically for pastors and people in the ministry. It’s called Facebook for Pastors, and you can download it HERE. It’s only a little over 30 pages, but it’s both very informative and a quick read.  I’d recommend it for any pastor.  It’s simple enough for anyone who has ever accidentally referred to it as “Facepage” or “Mybook”, yet informative enough to enlighten even the best of Facebookers.

LOL! My Pastor referred to it as “facepage” once while in high school chapel… he hasn’t been able to live it down, and that’s all we call it now.

I’m onboard for pastoring through social networking. Already working at it on Twitter. Keep getting the word out.
