Verse of the Week: Matthew 5:4

All You Need Is Love
A few weeks ago, my pastor preached from the Love chapter (1 Corinthians 13). What an amazing group of verses; the summary of what love truly is. His focus was “Charity is Kind.” Can we say that we have kindness for everyone?

In light of that I have chosen Matthew 5:44 as our focus verse this week.

Matthew 5: 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Kind of like the old saying, “Killing with kindness.” Now, I don’t intend to kill anyone, but I wonder if that little thought has anything to do with this verse. To slay someones soul and spirit by an overwhelming love and care for them.

Allowing the Holy Spirit that indwells us to overflow and to abound in love. I know this sounds mushy gushy and maybe just impossible. I’m not a spiritual giant, I don’t have it all figured out, nor do I do right at all times. But taking small steps of love, by praying for someone or asking for God to bless them is where it starts.

This thanksgiving season, let’s not only bless those we love and who love us, but be a blessing to those that oppose us as well. Ask God for a special blessing for them.
