MMH5 – Five things to call 2010, and what church ministry you should be in

The Monday Morning High Five

Continuing our list of all things 5 to hopefully bring a smile to your Monday.

It’s a big debate on what to call 2010. It was fine in the 80′s, 90′s, and Oh’s, but what do we do now in the age of shortening everything? I still am not sure exactly what to say. If you already have an instinct as to what you call this new year, it may be a peek as to what duty would be a good fit for you in the church. I would not say that any of these 2010′s are wrong, just different.

Five things to call 2010, and what church ministry you should be in.

1. 2010 (“Two-thousand-and-ten”)

You’re formal and explain everything with little need for interpretation. You have no need for shortcuts and little desire to be hip or trendy. Chances of you wearing a suit or dress to church are very high. You get jobs done right the first time.

  • Possible Church Ministries Include: Pastor, Deacon, Any Planning Committee, Church Librarian

2. 10 (“Ten”)

If there’s a four step way to a five step program, you’d take it. You like to find the easiest and most efficient way to do things. You are likely found with a cell phone in your hand, and most definitely are on Twitter.  You probably are Facebook friends with most of the people in your church.

  • Possible Church Ministries Include: Youth Pastor/worker, Worship team, College & Careers class attendee

3. 09-er-2010 (“Oh-Nine-Err-I-Mean-Two-Thousand-and-Ten”)

You haven’t quite got in the groove of everything yet, and are a creature of habit.  You normally don’t make mistakes, but when you do, it’s with an audience watching. It seems that you are mostly noticed when you make a small error.

  • Possible Church Ministries Include: Audio/Visual team

4. 0-10 (“Oh-Ten”)

You like to add words and phrases that probably aren’t necessary. You also are a creature of habit, but can adapt to change a little more quickly than 09-er-2010 people.  To you, it’s not so much about functionality, but about the fun involved.

  • Possible Church Ministries Include: Youth Group Leader/worker, Sunday School Teacher, Bus ministry

5. 20-10 (“Twenty-ten”)

You are official and do things by the book. You have a knack for taking large numbers and separating them into workable figures. You like to break things out and analyze where to put things. There’s hardly a hair out of place and there’s possibly a lint brush in the glove compartment of your vehicle.

  • Possible Church Ministries Include: Usher, Treasurer, Any Party Planning Committee

How do you say 2010? Did it match your church duty that you are currently in?

I’m very into the 20-10 thing. I’m a big parties planner (most ppl come for the food!) but I can see myself in a week or 2 shortening it up to just 10–which fits my church role better (singer)

I know, I want it to be just ten, but it just does not sound natural. Plus it won't be till the 20's that we find a more roll-off-the-tongue solution. lol

    I'm in the #5 category.

But that doesn't fit into anything I do at the church. Perhaps I'm overlooking my calling of the party planning committee ;)

I write #3 but I say #5. Make of that what you will.

      You write "09-er-2010"? Very interesting…

        Puaha.

        It's more like 2009 2010. But whatever. Forget I said anything ;)

ha! It bothers me when people say "oh-ten," I'm more of a "two-thousand and ten" person myself.

      Church librarian. Easy. lol
