Are We Done With Christmas Yet?
A few years ago I was at a pool party of a friend of mine. I’m pretty sure that it was in mid-August. Imagine my surprise when she came out of the house with a pair of hockey sticks for her husband and son. My confusion increased as she wished them both a Merry Christmas.
At first I thought she was just being cool-making a bold statement about the over-commercialization of Christmas. Here was someone who was not bound by the tyranny of the calendar or the local merchants’ clever marketing campaigns.
The truth turned out to be a little less impressive. It seems she had purchased the sticks so early before Christmas that she had actually forgotten all about them as they sat stashed in her spare closet.

That got me thinking. Are there any gifts that we haven’t opened? Is there a gift stashed under our tree that we have neglected?
What about God’s gift to all mankind? The greatest gift ever given is often overlooked even at a time that is supposed to be a celebration of the gift itself.
My question to you is: Have you received God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ? Have you tried to give God’s gift of salvation to someone else? What about God’s other gifts that he gives out freely everyday; like mercy, grace, forgiveness, love, fellowship? Have you opened yours today? Or is it still under the tree? What are you waiting for?

Great reminders. I think we forget so many times that these gifts are meant to be opened, used, and shared. We think it’s enough that we have them tucked away, but that’s not God’s plan or purpose in the gift. Thanks, Brett!
I totally agree, Jason! Great thoughts. I should mention that Dave Borders wrote this, not me. I did find the picture for this post off of Flickr. That was all me.
I really appreciate the message of this post, but what I really want to know is where I can get that awesome aqua/chocolate houndstooth wrapping paper.
