Enjoying Life More
Its January 2010. January always brings hope of the new year. New beginnings. A fresh new start. A clean slate. So, today, I was reading blogs and noting different resolutions. Several newspapers sites listed the top things people resolve to do in the New Year. One of the top five things was to enjoy life more.
The American lifestyle is go-go-go! Its hectic, filled with worry and stress! It only makes sense that this is one of the most prevelant things people wish for in the new year. Enjoying the life that God gave you is an important step to a happier and healthier you!

What are some new things you could do this year to help you to enjoy life? I found learning a new skill gave me much enjoyment. A few years ago, I picked up knitting and made 27 scarves! However, I didn’t completely learn. I only mastered one stitch. This year one of my ‘resolutions’ is to add purling to my knitting skills. I know it’ll take time, but will be well worth it. Maybe I’ll finally make more than just scarves. Last year, my sister took a cake decorating class at a local Joann’s. She loves it! And she will be making my mini wedding cake. So hey, your new skill might be something you can actually use to make money or for something extra you can do on the side. What have you always wanted to do but haven’t? Make 2010 the year you do it!
Now maybe you don’t want to take up a new hobby, you don’t have time or money. What about changing up your routine? Instead of a movie night try going to a theater performance or check out a local high school play. Get a group together for sledding or a winter hike. Check out your local artistic and recreational activities. This month, Daniel and I will be going to an Ice Sculpting Festival in a nearby town. (Its my favorite winter activity!) Many towns host winter festivals, they just aren’t always as well known as the summerfests are. Check online for local listings.
However, I think the best way to enrich your life, is to give back to others. Volunteering brings you closer to your community. When done as a family, a couple, or as a Sunday school class, it can bring you closer to each other. The Bible tells us to take care of the less fortunate, we, as Christians, should be the most charitable. So why not shovel a driveway, or take a meal to a shut in? This past Christmas, my family went to the nursing home my grandma lives at and conducted our own Christmas singspiration service. My sisters and I lead the sing a long. My uncle preached, and shared a story. My mom and aunt did scripture readings. This experience was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I highly recommend it!
What are somethings that you have found to enjoy your life more?

"Things I have found to enjoy my life more?"…exactly what you said, Trae. Volunteering. Changing up routine. And, of course, just being with friends and family.
My husband actually volunteered with me this past weekend at a soup kitchen. And it meant so much to me….knowing that we were making a difference together.
Great article!
I have a habit of committing to too many things, so I'm in the process of saying 'no' more than I ever have. It's hard, but at the end of the day I actually have time to sit a read a little bit, or sit and get into a hobby.
Tom, I totally get where you're coming from. For a while, I've been trying to schedule my time by putting aside the stuff that I like to do, and leaving room for the stuff that I love to do.

Exactly. That would fall under the "Love to do" category.
