Beat Winter Madness – Keep Your Spirits High During the Bleak Winter Months
Michigan is pretty dreary during the Winter months (and it doesn’t help that my sister is Colorado telling me of the 300 days of sunshine there!). I miss the sun and tend to get into a funk during January and February, which affects my spiritual life too. Here’s some tips to perk up your winter walk with God!
Walk with God, literally.
During the Summer, it’s more convenient to take a leisurely walk and wonder at God’s creation, but why not try it this weekend? Bundle up, get outside! Take your iPod along and listen to worship songs, or just “Be still and know that I am God”

Devotional Make-Over
We’ve talked about ideas for mixing up your devo routine before, and If you’re like me, you’ve made a devotional resolution or a commitment for the year. But it’s February, and I’m finding I have wandered from my schedule. (Are you in the same boat? Don’t beat yourself up!) Instead of being discouraged and tossing my ideas, I’m going to tweek them, change it up, and make it work! I’m switching gears and focusing on a topic, instead of the amount of verses/chapters read.
Coffee Date (with God)
Meet a friend for coffee and do devos together. Can’t afford to go out? Stay in and create your own coffee bar, there’s plenty of creamers and mixes to make your own caffeinated creations. (Only $.20 a cup if you use a maxwell house latte mix) There’s nothing like a pot of java to perk things up!
Group Worship
Host a worship night. My brother and I hosted many ‘Sings’ (what we called our musical get togethers) in the past. We would invite people to come over for fellowship and music. My brother would give a devotion, people would share verses, and encouragement, and then we’d sing. So even if you weren’t musical, you could still be a part of worship! And having refreshments doesn’t hurt either!
Morning Manna
Try breakfast in bed this Saturday with your Bible. Prepare breakfast for you and your spouse, or just you if your not married. Bring it into bed with your Bible. Feed your body and soul at the same time!
What are things that you do to beat the Winter Madness?
Wonderful ideas and very practical (and spiritual). Thanks so much.
I have wandered from my commitment of reading. I need to get back on that. Great tips, Trae!
I, too, struggle during these dreary months. Thanks for the very real suggestions. They are so doable!
Love the ideas!
im currently being flooded with marriage books and sometimes its hard to "squeeze in" the Bible – funny eh?
