Discussion Guidelines
I don’t want to do all the talking. I want to hear your thoughts, ideas, reactions as well! I encourage you to submit your thoughts about GS posts in the comment section.
I do, however, have a few commenting guidelines. What sort of comments am I looking for? In my view, a good comment has the following qualities:
- On topic: specifically relevant to the issues or questions raised by the original post
- Sensibly short and concise
- Friendly and polite in tone and language (even if you’re commenting on something with which you strongly disagree)
- Contributes something useful and helpful to the topic
On the flip side, there are some things you’ll definitely want to avoid in your comments:
- Off-topic
- Overly long or otherwise difficult to read (if your comment is longer than the original post, consider shortening it for readability)
- Arguing with other commenters (debates or lengthy discussions with other commenters are best taken to another forum or a personal blog)
- Argumentative or angry tone of language
- Contribute nothing useful or positive to the discussion
For a helpful rule of thumb when commenting, take a look at the guidelines at GoodComment.com.
I appreciate alternate viewpoints; you’re just as welcome to submit comments that politely disagree with me as agree with me.
I hold myself to these same standards when posting comments of my own. It all comes down to being polite, courteous, and Christ-like in the way we communicate. If you have particular questions about the comment or moderation policy, don’t hesitate to contact me.
