Spending Time With God
It is a necessary part of the Christian life to spend time each day with God. It is so important to the spiritual life of the believer to take time out of each day to pray and read God’s Word. God wants us to have a close relationship with Him and a proper relationship cannot survive without communication.
Praying
I. Why are we to pray?
- We are to pray because it is commanded of God – Many times throughout the Bible God tells those that are saved to pray. (Job 22:27, Psalm 72:15, Etc.)
- We are to pray to receive answers and guidance in our lives – We, through prayer, are to talk to God and ask Him for things for ourselves and for each other. (Jeremiah 33:3, Matthew 5:44)
II. What are we to pray for?
- We are to pray for needs that we or someone else may have – (Philippians 4:6)
- David prayed in time of need when he was being chased by King Saul – (Psalm 142:1)
- Daniel prayed when he was cast into the lions den – (Daniel 6:11)
- God tells us to pray for others – (Ephesians 6:18)
- We are to pray for God to send people to tell others about Christ – (Luke 10:2)
III. When are we to pray?
- We are to pray all the time – (Psalm 55:17, I Thessalonians 5:17)
- God promises to hear and to answer our prayers! – (Mark 11:24)
Reading the Bible
I. Why are we to read the Bible?
- It is commanded by God – (Deuteronomy 17:19
II. When are we to read the Bible?
- We are to read the Bible every day – (Joshua 1:8)
It is so important that we read God’s Word daily. David said of the Bible that it was able to guide him. (Psalm 119:105). Job said that he esteemed God’s Word more than his necessary food. (Job 23:12)
Challenge: Spend time with God! No matter if you do it for a few hours or a few minutes, just spend time with God daily so that you will be able to grow in your Christian life. God gives us each day. Is it too much to give part of it back to Him?
