Verse of the Week: Psalm 119:148

Night Watches

This Tuesday is starting a little different for me. I agreed to take on the midnight shift to help out at work. So I’m here, tonight from 12am to 7am.

During the down time, I have taken to doing word searches using my Blackberry and YouVerse Bible app. (This isn’t an ad for YouVerse, but let me tell you, it is awesome!)

Anyway, I’m doing my searches and I stumbled along this verse:

Ps.119:148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

Of course, I remember reading it many times before, but today, as I’m in a ‘night watch’, it takes on a whole new meaning. The psalmistĀ  encourages night talks with God. Curl up with your Bible before bed. If you wake up unable to sleep, say a prayer, read your Bible, and meditate on God. Maybe he woke you up for a reason!

I also, applied this to my life, do I turn to God during the “night season”, when the ‘Son’light is gone. Is God the one I turn to?

This week I will be dwelling on this verse, and will be doing my devotions before bed!

Scott works nights too. He thinks this verse is in the Bible just for him.

Holman Christian Standard Bible says it this way…. I am awake through each watch of the night to meditate on Your promise. Psalm 119:148
