When is God the Loudest?
My mind is blank. My notebook remains inkless. I have nothing to say. Nothing worth writing down at least. Nothing to make you stop spying on your Facebook friends and start reading. I never have this problem. Usually my mind is racing at 123mph with ideas, thoughts, or simply replaying my day like a movie. Many a night, I lie awake thinking about: the card I need to send to my friend, the laundry I need to fold, why I was so blessed to be born in America, and why I never seem to have enough time to ever finish my to-do list. But not today. I’m tranquil. I’m silent.
With hundreds of thousands of words in the English language it’s usually hard to get me to shut up. Just ask my husband. But maybe that is what I need to do. Stop. Listen. Ponder. It’s when we’re at our quietest that we can hear God the loudest.

Your to do list could have 249 things on it. But it doesn’t matter one bit if you don’t have a slot reserved on your list for quiet time with God. This quiet time is imperative in strengthening your relationship with God. If you have a difficult time trying to find a quiet time or place to have your alone time with God, make it your mission this week to find one. It’s still the dawn of the year—a time for new beginnings. It can be a great new start to bringing you closer to God in your daily devotions and prayer time. Reflect on His power in your life. His protection. His provision.
Whether you have to lock yourself in the closet or take another shower just to get away from the noise of life…….do it. It’s that important. God has something specific to say to each one of us…. His will for our day……His will for our future. And His words are worth writing down on that blank sheet of paper.
Do you have a hard time finding a few quiet moments with God? Any advice on how you have found the perfect place or time to spend time with God?

Totally agree- great post.
Thank you.:) God bless!
Lately, I've found God's voice easiest to hear lately on my jogs. Try it. Especially a barefoot jog. :>)
In these times, God's voice isn't necessarily loud for me. It's more just fast, as if He's speaking with a ton of urgency. My mind has to trust that I'll remember what's important because, at least on the jogs, I can't write it all down.

ok, I've got to ask.. Barefoot jog? Do you do that outside?
I second Brett's question! I'll have to try the whole quiet time with God while jogging. I usually listen to music to keep me going, but I will have to try it. I do enjoy talking to God while walking my dog. …..it's so peaceful and serene during the winter months….a great time to praise His name.
I loved everything about this! The way it was written is so great and the truth inspired me to want to drop everything and take a quite moment away.
Thank you for your positive comment, sissy.:) Much appreciated. We all need those quiet moments…..
Lately its been hard to even want to have that quiet time, busYness&all that jazz–you helped remind me I NEED it
So this next week I’m going to again devote my commute to quiet time. Turn off all distractions(radio, cell, my busy mind) and talk to God.
I had gotten away from it- time to get back in the groove!
It's so easy to forget, isn't it? I seriously have to schedule it in to get it in….but whatever works, right?:) God bless.
Many times I find my quiet God time when I am driving. At home, sometimes it's hard to even that second shower…. and if I went and hid in a closet, I think they would have me committed. Ha ha But seriously, alone in the car, I can talk, and talk out loud. Works well for me !!!!
LOL…too funny.:) Yes, the closet might not work so well.:)
I def. agree with you….i love that morning drive to work…..such a peaceful time to commune with God.
With each of these comments and post, i am not seeing any mention of reading the Bible. I do not know if by daily devotions you mean reading from something like Call to Glory or Baptist Bread or My Utmost for His Highest, but those cannot substitute for sitting down and reading the Bible.
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
(1Ti 4:12-13)
I agree that we need time apart from all distractions and focus on prayer and reading. That is an important part of the daily walk.
Thank you, Scott! I should have been more specific in my post. When I said quiet time with God, I did mean prayer and reading the Bible…sorry it wasn't clearer. YOu are so right….nothing can take the place of reading the actual Bible.
Thanks.
When one reads daily devotionals, I think most people read the Bible along with it, a hand-in-hand kind of thing, so when I read this, I assumed it to be as such, and that she was referring in this blog to find some actual quiet-time-I-want-to-talk-to-you,-Lord !! time. Great post, Bek.
You assumed right.:) Thanks, Terri.
